1. What kind of junction box should be used to make hardwire connections? How the heck is this supposed to be installed up on my garage?

Outside you could use a waterproof junction box, or poke it thru the wall and use any junction box, I ran the wire thru the wall and used wire nuts. I mounted it with some lag bolts , can be mounted horizontal or vertical depending on your situation, I mounted mine vertical so I could adjust and get more side to side lighting, works great very bright.
