What are LED Sports Lights Better Than Metal Halide?
A: Energy Savings , More Lumens and less maintenance. Metal halides generate huge amounts of heat, wasting energy and reducing the amount of fixtures you can use. LED's run cool, are very efficient and allow more light fixtures closer together thus increasing the light on the ground..
LEDs enjoy several benefits over metal halide lights. For instance, a metal halide is made up of the gas mixture within the bulb. The more heat it gets, the brighter it shines, but there is a caveat. This mixture is vulnerable and can be exploded. Also, metal halide consumes more watts, has a short lifespan and is expensive to operate. Compare this to LED which may be costly to buy but will give you excellent lighting.
When buying LEDs, always talk about lumens instead of wattage as LED sports lighting is calculated through lumens instead of watts. For instance, a 1500 watt LED Sports Lighter is equal to a 500 watt LED stadium light. They will both average 60,000 lumens, but the LED will use 1000 less watt. LEDs converts energy into light much more efficiently and has a better area coverage per lumen compared to metal halide. It is safer to operate and has a very long life. While a metal halide will give you roughly 5-6 years or 10000 hours, a quality LED will last upwards of 25+ years or 50000 hours or more. Some LED lights may even last for 100,000 hours or more.
