365nm vs 395nm: Which is recommended for room black lights?

The ideal choice for room illumination between 365nm and 395nm UV black lights will rely on your particular requirements:

Advantages of 365nm (True UV-A)
Fluorescence is improved (many materials shine brighter).

Purple light is less visible and looks darker to the naked eye.

preferred for superior UV effects, forensics, or science.

Cons:
Typically, it is more costly.

less effective (better LEDs are needed).

Because it produces less visible light, it could look darker to the unaided eye.

395 nm (close to UV/Violet) Benefits:
more broadly accessible and less expensive.
more evident to the naked eye (purple glow).
Excellent for decorating and general party usage.

Cons:
Purple light that is more apparent (may weaken the "black light" illusion).

Compared to 365nm, certain fluorescent materials don't light as brightly.

For optimal fluorescence (such as glow paints, security features, and UV art), it is advised to choose a wavelength of 365 nm.

↑ 395nm for general room illumination (parties, decorations, economical usage)

365 nm is better if you want a full black light effect, which means there is less visible light. However, 395nm is more useful and reasonably priced if all you want is a nice purple glow with respectable fluorescence.
