Color temperature knowledge of LED light sources
When we buy LED lights, we often encounter those that say this is cool white light, that is medium white light, warm white light, etc. This is the color temperature of LED products, an important specification parameter, which is related to the display of LED flashlights. The color characteristics of general lamps and lanterns also have color temperature specifications.
How to distinguish the color temperature of these different light sources, and how should we choose the one that suits us when purchasing? Let's take a look at the knowledge about the color temperature of LED light sources for everyone.
light source
Light in nature is not always the same, and the perceived color of an object depends on the light source shining on it. Broadly speaking, everything that can radiate electromagnetic waves in the visible light wavelength range can be called a light source; narrowly speaking, it refers to lighting, and the light energy radiator that can provide a more uniform distribution of light energy in the entire visible light wavelength range is the light source.

color temperature
Color temperature is the characterization of the chromaticity quality of a light source, the hue tendency and color saturation of a light source. When the color of the light emitted by the light source is the same as the color of the light radiated by the black body at a certain temperature, the temperature of the black body is called the color temperature of the light source.
If an object burns, first the flame is red, then as the temperature increases it turns orange-yellow, then white, and finally, blue appears. The Scottish mathematician and physicist Lord Kelvin first discovered the close relationship between heat and color in 1848, and left the world with a great concept of "absolute zero" (-273.16 degrees Celsius). Since then, the Kelvin temperature scale was created, which is the color temperature we are talking about today.
Regarding the color temperature and the color quality of the light source, it can be considered that the higher the color temperature, the cooler the light, and the lower the color temperature, the warmer the light.
The color temperature of the light source is different, and the light color is also different. The color temperature below 3300K has a stable atmosphere and a warm feeling; the color temperature is between 3000-5000K, which is an intermediate color temperature, which has a refreshing feeling; the color temperature above 5000K has a cold feeling.
The Kelvin scale expresses temperature in units of K (abbreviation for kelvin), with lower numbers representing more "red" and higher numbers representing more "blue". Red and blue are not the colors of light itself, but just indicate that there are more red or blue components in the spectrum.
Correlated color temperature of different light source environments:
Color temperature only expresses the spectral composition of the light source, not the luminous intensity. A high color temperature indicates that there are more short-wave components, which are bluish-green; a low color temperature indicates that there are more long-wave components, which are reddish-yellow. Although the color temperature of the light source is not a concept with the brightness, the color temperature directly affects the brightness and contrast.

Because the correlated color temperature is actually close to the light color of the light source with black body radiation, the evaluation value of the light color performance of the light source is not an accurate color comparison, so the two light sources with the same color temperature value may still appear in the light color appearance. There are slight differences. Color temperature alone cannot tell how a light source can render an object's color, or how well an object's color is reproduced under that light source.
Several popular color temperatures of LED lights:
(1) Cool white light, color temperature above 6500K, the light source is close to natural light, with a bright feeling, suitable for most occasions, very bright, especially suitable for large-scale illumination, such as search and rescue, search, exploration, etc.
(2) Positive white light, with a color temperature between 5500K and 6500K, the light of positive white light is not as dazzling as cold white light, but it is still very bright, suitable for various outdoor occasions, such as night climbing, adventure, outdoor sports, etc.;
(3) Medium white light, the color temperature between 3500K~5500K, the light of medium white light is relatively mild, suitable for most flashlights, such as on duty, fishing, outdoor, etc.;
(4) Warm white light 2100K~3500K, warm white light is soft and can give people a warm and comfortable feeling. Suitable for small-scale use, such as indoor home, tent camping, picnic, night running, etc.
