Energy-efficient light bulb types

Low-energy light bulbs come in a variety of designs, including LED (light-emitting diode), Halogen, and Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs).

Compared to CFLs or halogen bulbs, LEDs use less energy while still producing the same amount of light. These are a little more expensive but will last much longer, saving you money.

LED bulbs

Since that LEDs are up to 85% more energy efficient than conventional light bulbs, their initial cost is outweighed. They can last up to 20 years, generate more light, and consume fewer watts. A typical incandescent light bulb lasts around a year, by contrast.

Pendant lights, desk lamps, and outside garden lights can all use LED globes. If you want dimmable LED lighting, make sure to choose an LED bulb that is compatible with dimmers or upgrade your present dimmer switch because they don't always function with conventional dimmer switches.

Although LED lights are typically white, they are available in various color temperatures. Choose a bulb that is close to 2700K if you want warm illumination (Kelvin). Search for a light that is closer to 4000K for a cool white or 5000K or above for a colder light.

Nevertheless, you can also purchase LED multi-color party lights and solar-powered LED string lights to adorn patios or wrap around trees if you're looking for some truly festive color.

LED light bulbs don't contain mercury or other dangerous materials that need to be properly disposed of, in contrast to CFL globes. Also, they produce half as much carbon dioxide as CFLs and halogen light bulbs combined.

Halogen bulbs

In Australia, low voltage halogen downlights are the most often utilized globes. Although they are typically more expensive than conventional light bulbs, they generate brilliant, intense light and are roughly 25% more efficient, lasting up to three times as long. These can be utilized with a dimmer and come in a variety of shapes and colors.

Green halogen lamps

Eco halogen bulbs are available in downlights and the standard bulb design. They provide a natural light that may be dimmed and last twice as long as standard halogen globes.

streamlined fluorescent lighting (CFLs)

Fluorescent tubes that have been twisted into a CFL shape can fit into a normal light fixture. They have similar color and brightness to traditional globes, but they consume just approximately a fifth of the power and can last up to 30 times longer. CFLs may be more expensive, but they pay for themselves in energy savings in less than nine months.

LED, Halogen, and CFL light comparisons

Watts are a unit of measurement for energy consumption and brightness in conventional light bulbs. The wattage of an LED light bulb does not indicate how bright the light will be.

On LED light bulbs, look for the lumen rating (lm), which is a measurement of their brightness as opposed to watts.
