Why commercial LED lighting won't persist in industrial plants
Commercial LED lighting manufacturers have cut corners in recent years to lower prices to increase sales. This means that ordinary commercial LED high bay lights are manufactured with the cheapest components on the market.
This may be fine for a standard commercial warehouse. But for an industrial plant, this shoddy quality doesn't last long.
Industrial plants and production facilities have high ambient temperature areas, heavy equipment and machinery can cause voltage spikes and vibrations, higher than average ceiling heights, and are often dirty, dusty and humid. Inexpensive commercial LED luminaires will not work in these types of environments.
The Problem with Commercial LED High Bay Lights
When consumers look for standard LED lighting for warehouse applications, they are usually looking for the cheapest possible price.
Many people have endured poor HID lighting and the maintenance that comes with it for years, putting off buying better LED lights just because they're waiting for the price to drop.
As a result, LED manufacturers cut corners on components and put no-name drivers and chips into their lamps. These components are Z prone to failure. With these cheap components, these lamps are not suitable for industrial applications.
5 Common Lighting Challenges Found in Heavy Industrial Plants

Heavy industrial plants and facilities are commonly found in mining, steelmaking, paper mills, and food processing facilities. The challenges these factories face are:
1. Large vibration: large equipment such as bridge cranes have large vibration and light failures.
2. Voltage spikes: Machines and equipment that require electricity may send voltage spikes on the line. Heavier loads and "dirty" power sources from older buildings can cause voltage spikes that can cause power outages or light failures.
3. High temperature environment: Steel producers and other manufacturing plants are bound to have very high ambient temperatures. Some areas of the plant regularly experience temperatures as high as 150 degrees. Examples of these common locations are production areas, drying hoods, cooling beds, furnaces, etc.
4. High Ceilings: Industrial buildings have higher than average ceilings to accommodate large equipment and mining vehicles. Standard ceiling heights are 15-18 feet. Industrial plant ceilings can be 60 feet, 90 feet and as high as 130 feet. Most of these bays are dark and poorly lit.
5. Dirty, dusty and damp: Any manufacturing and production facility usually has a lot of dirt, dust and dampness. The causes of these types of dirty environments are wash down areas, coal and production area dust, and so on.
