On July 10, Central South University's environmental lighting and myopia prevention and control strategy project for children and adolescents was launched in Xiangya Hospital.


The project will cooperate with medical and professional background technical managers in various disciplines to conduct extensive and in-depth research on campus lighting and lighting environment and other school-age vision to form related hardware environments, scientifically carry out the evaluation and construction of campus lighting and lighting environment system, and build a batch of "healthy lighting benchmarking demonstration classrooms" on a trial basis. , Gradually promote the promotion of healthy light environment in schools, communities, and homes, promote artificial and natural environmental light lighting and related science of myopia prevention and control, and strive to use the promotion of healthy lighting as an opportunity to form a scientific theoretical study of myopia prevention and control and an implementation plan for myopia prevention and control renew.


At present, the incidence of myopia in schools in our country is higher and lower than the age, which has become an important social problem facing our country. Particularly affected by the new crown epidemic, children and adolescents have extended their home study and indoor activities, and the opportunities for outdoor activities have been reduced and the situation of myopia prevention and control in children and adolescents has become more severe.


According to statistics, the rate of myopia among adolescents across the country has reached 53.6%, and the rate of myopia among urban adolescents is even as high as 67%. According to the vision survey of primary, middle and high school students in 9 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities announced by the Ministry of Education in November 2020, the incidence of poor eyesight rose from 59.2% to 80.3%, and high school students with the greatest academic pressure had the highest incidence of poor eyesight, reaching 89.3%.



Improper use of eyes is the main cause of myopia in young people, and lighting plays an important role in the prevention and control of myopia. In order to implement the spirit of General Secretary Jinping’s important instructions on the prevention and control of myopia in children and adolescents, grasp the eye health of children and adolescents in the "post-epidemic period", explore effective strategies to reduce the incidence of myopia, and comprehensively improve the physical fitness of children and adolescents, according to the Ministry of Education, etc. The "Implementation Plan for the Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Myopia in Children and Adolescents" jointly issued by the eight departments, the Ministry of Education entrusted Central South University to implement the "Environmental Lighting and Myopia Prevention and Control Strategies for Children and Adolescents" project plan.


The project is led by Vice President Chen Xiang and Vice President Xia Xiaobo of Xiangya Hospital. It is specifically undertaken by the Ophthalmology Center of Xiangya Hospital and co-organized by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education. Next, it will adopt vision health tracking and screening, transform classroom lighting equipment, and create scientific uses. A series of measures such as the establishment of healthy lighting demonstration classrooms, etc., were the first to be implemented in Guangya Middle School in Kaifu District, one of the first pilot schools in the "National Children and Adolescent Myopia Prevention and Control Reform Pilot Zone".


Vice President Xia Xiaobo said that controlling the development of myopia and correcting the complications of myopia are medical problems, but how to prevent healthy eyes from myopia, the focus is on prevention. The lighting environment of the classroom should be bright and suitable. Studying under conditions similar to natural light can better protect your eyesight. In this project, a healthy lighting demonstration classroom is set up. According to the intensity of outdoor light, intelligent light adjustment is carried out through the intelligent lighting system to simulate the effect of natural light, which can help prevent the occurrence and development of young people's myopia.


In addition, according to the parents and teachers of Guangya Middle School students attending the meeting, the project team has successively installed eye protection lights in the school, and the bright campus provides convenience for the teachers, so that the children’s eye environment on the campus is guaranteed.
