Advantages of GU10 Bulbs

A cap or base that is attached to a light (or bulb) is called a GU10 type. Two stubby pins, as opposed to the two pointed pins of a low voltage GU5.3 cap, help to identify this type of cap. By twisting and pulling, a GU10 lamp can be extracted from a lamp holder.

Since GU10 bulbs operate on mains power (230V) and don't need any additional transformers or LED drivers, they have now replaced incandescent lamps as the lamp of choice for LED (Light Emitting Diode) retrofit lamps. They have numerous varieties and are simple to install.

originally created as a simpler, transformer-free mains voltage replacement for a low voltage MR16 (GU5.3 cap). Eventually, low energy solutions for the GU10 were made available, starting with CFLs. The majority of CFL GU10s are now obsolete because LED lighting technology has completely surpassed that of CFL, and many are available on our website for stock clearance.

GU10 lights come in two different frame sizes; the halogen frame size is around 53mm deep. This size of CFL and LED is widely available and is referred to as a perfect fit lamp. The second is the 80mm-deeper deep low energy style, which has since mostly been phased out in favour of perfect fit bulbs while maintaining the same lumen output. True GU10 lights must always have a frame size of 50 or 51mm in diameter.

Although more compact designs have largely replaced the older, deeper low energy bulbs, some brighter models are still in use. The 8W version now shines 35% brighter and is dimmable with all dimmer kinds!
