How much do stadium lights cost?

It is helpful to be aware of every expense related to developing a football pitch. The stand itself, as well as the installation and maintenance of the lights, are some of the most crucial elements. The most costly recurring expenditure of a stadium has historically been the energy used to power stadium lights during games. Although we at the GT Grandstand are not in charge of installing lights, we would like to perform some financial calculations to assist you in choosing the finest options as you create your sports facility.

What are the prices of stadium lights?

The kind and quality of floodlights, the amount of energy used each day, and the average cost of various energy sources are all elements that influence the overall cost of a lighting system. For instance, to successfully light a standard high school football pitch, 300 to 400 lux are needed. To generate 300 to 400 lux with metal halide lamps, you would need 70,000 watts; whereas, LED floodlights only need 35,000 watts.

Electricity prices

A kilowatt hour costs on average 12 cents in the US. For metal halide lights, the calculation would be 70000*0.12/1000 and for LED lights, it would be 35000*0.12/1000 if we wanted the stadium lights to operate 15 nights a month for 4 hours each night. Metal halide lamps cost $8.40 an hour to run on electricity, whereas LED lights cost $4.20. Metal halide lights will cost $756 per month and LED lights will cost $378 per month, assuming you turn on the lights 15 evenings a month for 6 hours each.

Costs of installation and upkeep

LED lights easily take the lead when comparing the lifetime maintenance costs of metal halide lamps with LED bulbs. LED lighting has an eight-fold longer lifetime than metal halide lighting. When replacing lights is pricey, you may save a lot of money by using this longevity.

Depending on the quality of the illumination, installing lighting equipment for a typical high school stadium might cost between 100,000 and 300,000. The whole cost begins to rise if stadium lights need to be replaced every couple of years.

What are the prices of stadium lights?
This is one of the reasons we advise our clients to get LED lights, which are initially more expensive but will end up saving them hundreds of thousands of dollars. When comparing lamp lifespans, metal halide lights have a 2-3 year lifespan whereas LED bulbs have a 20 year lifetime. They also cost half as much for an hour of power. For a high school football pitch, LED lights will cost between $200,000 and $300,000 to purchase and install, but over time, you'll save more on power and upkeep.
