LED Tubes Selection Guide: Integrated vs Split Type LED Tubes
Many overseas buyers often hesitate between integrated and split LED T5/T8 tubes. Although they look similar in appearance, they differ greatly in structure, installation method and application scenarios. A wrong choice will increase installation labor time, later maintenance cost and even affect the overall project budget.
1. Integrated LED Tube
The integrated LED tube is a complete finished luminaire. The bracket, aluminum profile housing, LED chips and driver are integrated as one unit and cannot be separated. Equipped with male and female connectors, it supports series connection of multiple units. Simply fix the bracket and connect to mains power, no extra lamp holder required.
- Advantages
Simple installation with buckle fixing and plug-and-play wiring, which improves construction efficiency and saves labor cost for new projects.
Delivered as a complete set and ready for use upon receipt, ideal for retail, shelf lighting, display cabinets and simple new installation projects.
Neat overall appearance and excellent continuous linear lighting effect.
- Disadvantages
Integrated design means the whole set needs to be replaced once damaged, leading to relatively high maintenance cost for large-scale long-term usage.
The driver is built inside the aluminum channel, resulting in concentrated heat for high-power models.
Application Scenarios: New renovation, warehouse shelf, supermarket display cabinet, indoor linear lighting and foreign trade retail orders.
2. Split Type (Retrofit) LED Tube
The split LED tube is also known as retrofit replacement tube. It only contains the tube body with G13 pins at both ends and must work with a separate bracket. Its biggest feature is direct replacement of traditional fluorescent tubes, while the original old brackets can be retained, only the light source needs to be changed.
- Advantages
The bracket can be reused for a long time. If the tube fails, only the tube needs replacement, which saves long-term operation and maintenance cost for large factories.
Independent tube leaves better heat dissipation space and ensures high stability, suitable for large-scale engineering projects.
No need for rewiring or bracket replacement in renovation projects, greatly cutting material cost for retrofitting.
- Disadvantages
Two sets of materials (brackets + tubes) are required for initial project procurement.
More installation procedures: fix the bracket first then install the tube.
