Samsung Electronics, a global leader in advanced digital component solutions, has unveiled the LM301B EVO, a new mid-power LED package that has been engineered to revolutionise the quality of light and efficacy in industrial and interior applications.

The global regulations and standards for lighting, which were previously focused on light efficacy, are now becoming more comprehensive and include stringent criteria for energy efficiency and colour quality. The Energy-related Products Directive (ErP) of the European Union has been revised to increase the stringency of its energy labels for light sources. Additionally, the Design Lights Consortium (DLC), a non-profit organisation that oversees lighting standards in the United States and Canada, has implemented a colour quality index while maintaining the same high efficacy level.

The LM301B EVO is instrumental in adhering to the stringent lighting standards that pertain to both energy efficiency and colour quality. The LED package, which is based on Samsung's proprietary flip-chip design, boasts the industry's maximum efficacy of 235 lumens per watt (lm/W). This is achieved by incorporating a new reflective material into the packaging mould and enhancing the efficiency of phosphor conversion. Samsung also optimised the red spectrum in the LED's phosphor blend to achieve superior colour quality, particularly with the red tints, which are typically more challenging to render precisely.

"Un Soo Kim, senior vice president of the LED Business Team at Samsung Electronics, stated that the new LM301B EVO provides an unparalleled combination of colour rendering and light efficacy that is in perfect harmony with the evolving LED lighting standards." "In an effort to surpass energy standards worldwide, Samsung will persist in offering value-added LED light sources through technological innovation."

Luminaire manufacturers can achieve industry-leading efficacy and qualify for the ErP Directive's Grade A certification by creating lamps that meet the DLC's latest V5.1 Premium requirements when utilising the bundle.

The LM301B EVO is a versatile component that can be seamlessly integrated into both newly designed and existing fixtures for general and premium luminaires, as it is built on the industry-standard 3030 platform.

The LM301B EVO is currently in production and is available in a variety of colour temperatures, including 2,700K and 6,500K. The package will be available in two lighting modules: the Q-series EVO, which is optimised for indoor illumination in offices and schools, and the H inFlux EVO, which is designed for high-ceiling applications such as factories and warehouses, in order to facilitate incorporation into existing markets.
