      About 80% of the failures caused by LED lighting products come from the LED power supply. Since the continuous improvement of LED light source product packaging technology and the continuous development of heat dissipation technology in the past few years, the stability of the light source has reached a relatively good level, even if it is there. Light decay and color drift are mainly caused by unreasonable heat dissipation design. There are very few cases of direct necrosis. Relatively speaking, the problem of LED power supply is much more serious. When a problem occurs, it is usually a direct dead light or flicker, and the frequency of occurrence is relatively high.  


     The failure and maintenance of conventional LED lighting street lamps are the light source sodium lamps. The national standard for sodium lamps stipulates that the warranty period is one year, and the street lamp unit will store a certain amount of sodium lamps. The sodium lamp has mature national standards, and the main parameters such as the size and power of the main accessories are unified and interchangeable.

   The current LED lamp failure is mainly in the led power supply, so to solve the main contradiction is to solve the led power supply problem. Due to the lack of mandatory uniform standards for LED power supplies, the LED power supplies on the market are independent, single-channel, multi-channel, and different in size, causing many problems. With the emergence of ultra-high-power LED power supplies on the market, more than 4 LED driving power supplies abound, so frequent failures, and due to the cost and shape of the overall design of LED street lights, multiple factors overlap, often resulting in LED power maintenance Difficulties are numerous, so complaints from the owners and the media's incitement have caused everyone to misunderstand LED street lights, which has affected the reputation and development of the industry.

   Five concepts for the development of LED drive power:

   1. Give up high-power and super-power, and develop high-stability small and medium-power power supplies, preferably between 30W-40W, and the maximum should not exceed 50W.

  Because the greater the power, the greater the heat generation, and the more compact the components inside, which is not conducive to heat dissipation, and the temperature is the culprit for the failure of the LED power supply. Furthermore, low-power LED power supplies are relatively mature and have advantages in terms of stability and cost. In fact, many LED power supply companies know that the higher the power, the harder it is to do, and they are unwilling to do high-power. However, due to the pressure of application manufacturers, passively develop high-power power supplies. Many solutions have not been verified by time and proved by practice. They are all in a hurry. The projects launched are all experimental products, so the failures are endless. In contrast, because of the earlier development of small and medium power LED power supplies, the technical solutions are much more mature.

   High-power and ultra-high-power power supplies are not flexible in installation due to their larger size, and small and medium-power power supplies are more flexible in installation due to their small size.

  2. Give up more than 4 outputs, develop single or two outputs, give up high current and super high current, and develop small current.

  The more the number of output channels, the more difficult it is to make, and the higher the failure rate. So far, no LED power supply manufacturer can stand up and say: "Under the premise of today's demanding cost requirements, there is no problem with the guarantee of more than 4 channels." The more output channels, the greater the total output current, and the current is the main cause of heating. If there is voltage, no heating is necessary, but when there is current, it must be heating. Simple calculation can be considered that the heating power is proportional to the square of the current. That is to say, if the current is doubled, the heating power will be increased by 4 times, the current will be increased by 3 times, and the heating power will be increased by 9 times. So I suggest that the current should be controlled below 1A.

3. Intelligent control should be one of the biggest advantages of LED lamps, and intelligent control is also the intelligent control of LED power supply.

  Intelligent control is particularly important in the lighting applications of street lights and tunnel lights. As far as street lights are concerned, intelligent control can achieve stepless control of the power of led lamps at different time periods and according to the road traffic density, which not only meets application requirements, but also achieves energy-saving effects. The application of tunnel lighting is even more important. It can automatically adjust the brightness of tunnel entrances and exits according to the brightness of the tunnel, providing drivers with a safe driving environment.

  4. Heat dissipation and protection are the main external factors of LED power failure.

   Not only does the LED power supply itself heat up, but also the LED lamps and lanterns. How to properly emit these two heat sources is a problem that the lamp design engineer must consider. It is necessary to prevent excessive heat concentration, forming a heat island effect, and affecting the life of the LED power supply. In addition, the problem of protection is also very important. The penetration of moisture may cause the short circuit of the LED power supply. The sand and dust on the shell will affect the heat dissipation of the LED power supply. Exposure to the sun will easily cause high temperature and aging of wires and other components. Protection is actually to solve this. A series of questions.

   5. The feasibility of maintenance.

   Although we have done enough work in the first four steps, it is still impossible to completely avoid the problem of LED power failure. This is the reason why we proposed the feasibility of maintenance. Led lighting design engineers should consider the maintenance of led power supply. Only when the replacement of led power supply is as simple as the replacement of conventional lighting sources, can it be possible to transfer the maintenance task to the led street light unit.

   about this. We should work hard on the maintenance of led lamps. Designers should treat themselves as maintenance workers. The simpler the requirements, the better. In the actual use process, the failure rate of the rotary wiring plug is relatively high, and most of the failures are caused by water leakage. Everyone has realized that the reasonable design method of modularization should be in the integration of module power supply. Because the overall power of modularization is small, if the power supply can be plugged and unplugged to solve the problem of maintenance, the street lamp unit should stock LEDs. Power supply, (not to doubt that some of today’s led power supplies are relative to the life of LED light sources), both enterprises and owners benefit.

   To sum up, although most of the failures of LED lamps occur on the LED power supply, the LED power supply companies cannot be blamed blindly. The LED power failure is the result of a comprehensive effect of multiple factors, many of which are caused by the unreasonable design of the LED lighting company. If you want to effectively reduce the failure of LED power supply, it is also necessary for LED power supply companies and LED lighting companies to strengthen interaction and work together!
