In 2016, Los Angeles decided to replace the street lights on the streets from the original high-pressure sodium lights to LED lights. The entire process took four years and involved more than 7,200 kilometers of roads. These LED street lights are also intelligently networked. In the future, smart street lights can also work in response to surrounding conditions, such as flashing when an emergency occurs, reminding passing pedestrians and guiding ambulances. In addition, the electricity saved by LED street lights will be used to run 100 electric vehicle charging stations.
Half of Berlin’s street lights turned into charging piles
As far as Germany is concerned, there are about 200,000 telephone poles available. In Berlin, nearly 1,000 telephone poles will be used as "charging poles" in the next phase. German energy supplier Grundgrün predicts that soon every street light in Berlin will have this charging function.
