What is the outlook for the UAE led lighting market?
After several years of real estate bubble crisis, the construction industry in the UAE has entered a stage of full recovery. When many projects are launched in large numbers, the lighting market is full of spring. At the same time, due to the growing population and rapid urbanization in the UAE, in order to control carbon dioxide emissions and save energy, the UAE has begun to attach importance to environmentally friendly products. In terms of market size, according to relevant data, in 2012, the total market size of UAE LED lights was about 46 million to 54 million U.S. dollars, and the sales volume was equivalent to 1 million to 1.2 million. In the first quarter of 2015, China’s total exports of LED lighting to the UAE were approximately US$70.916 million, accounting for 1.9% of China’s total exports in the first quarter. The top three major UAE products were ceiling lights, LED downlights, and LED panels. Lamps accounted for 23.8%, 19.7%, and 17.6% respectively. The UAE LED market is showing a strong growth trend. It is estimated that the market size will reach approximately US$224 million (equivalent to approximately RMB 1.430 billion) by 2019, and the compound annual growth rate from 2014 to 2019 will reach 20%. In 2020, Dubai, UAE will host the World Expo, bringing continuous growth and huge demand for the development of the LED industry. Under the implementation of the "One Belt, One Road" strategy, the relationship between China and the UAE will become closer, and more and more cooperation in infrastructure will also be reached.
In terms of policy, the UAE government announced energy-saving regulations on lighting products to prohibit the sale of inefficient light bulbs and to ensure the promotion and use of energy-saving, safe and high-quality light bulbs. The new regulations stipulate that starting from July 1, 2014, inefficient lamps will be phased out and the implementation of recycling and disposal methods will be standardized. The UAE leads the implementation of lighting standards and regulations throughout the Middle East. In accordance with the directives of the UAE Standardization and Metrology Authority (ESMA), the sale of standard incandescent bulbs in the UAE was officially banned on December 31, 2014. First, the certification and registration requirements for lighting products in the UAE have been determined. Second, the relevant parameter requirements of lighting products have been determined, including electrical safety, energy efficiency, functionality and safe disposal. Third, the packaging of all lighting products will display energy labels to show details about energy efficiency levels. Fourth, lighting products that do not comply with the regulations are not allowed to enter the UAE market.
