Industrial spaces have a bigger, deeper and complex structure, making them more challenging to illuminate. Most of the time, natural light cannot provide adequate illumination since the ceilings are too high and the floor area is too large. Also, there are cases where windows do not exist at all, or operations run all night through, so there’s no way for a stream of sunshine to stop by! You can only rely on artificial lighting to provide the necessary brightness to keep the place well-lit and safe.
If you have no idea how to proceed, here are a few things that you need to remember!
Incorporate as much natural light as possible
Although natural light cannot illuminate your space alone, you cannot take it out of the equation. As much as possible (if it’s not possible at all, then it’s okay), let sunlight come in and work its magic. If you’re in the construction process, add more windows or use transparent ceilings to open up the space for more sunshine to seep through. Also, it’s a good practice to regularly clean the windows to make sure that the grime and dirt will not block the sun.
Always do regular maintenance
Poor maintenance often leads to poor lighting conditions and issues like burnt-out bulbs, flickering bulbs, and fast regressing bulbs. If it’s a factory you’re lighting, these conditions can be hazardous for your employees. Flickering lights can bring headaches, eye strain, and fatigue. So, make it a point to schedule regular maintenance on your lighting fixtures for you to address the minor problems before it turns into a big ordeal!
Use adjustable lighting
Uniformity can make a space look tidy and clean. However, that does not mean that you need to have uniform lights throughout your area. Remember, different parts will have varying lighting needs. You need to light each space based on its function so you can supply the adequate brightness required.
Think about it as lighting your home. Each room has different needs. Some require more task lighting, and others are better off with more ambient lighting. So, look for lights that are customisable to fit the needs of the task and the comfort level of the employees.
