From traditional downlights to LED downlights, the downlight sources are constantly being updated, from the previous fluorescent lamps to straw hat lamp beads, LED high-power lamp beads, to today's SMD lamp beads (SMD) and LED integrated light source (COB) , The development of LED downlights can be described as one step each year.


There are three main types of light sources on LED downlights:


The first type: SMD lamp beads (SMD), using multiple small and medium power LEDs such as 5630, 5730, 4040, 7070 and other 1W and below LEDs, the technology is stable and mature, high brightness, soft light, low single power, Low heat, good heat dissipation, long life, uniform light color, meet the needs of LED downlight full-board light source, and truly achieve no dark areas.


The second type: high-power lamp beads, using several LEDs with a power of 1 to 3W.


The third type: integrated light source (COB), deep cover type, with anti-glare, brightness, illuminance, intensity, high luminous efficiency, high color rendering index and other characteristics.

SMD lamp beads (SMD):


SMD lamp beads (SMD) are used as the downlight source. Because the number of LEDs is large, the entire light source cavity can be spread as much as possible, so that the heat converted when the LED is working can be distributed more widely, which is convenient for heat dissipation and avoids Local temperature is too hot. Because the LED distribution is relatively scattered, the distance from the light source to the light emitting surface can be designed to be relatively small, and the effect of uniform light spot can be achieved. Therefore, the downlight using SMD lamp beads can be designed to be lower in height.


Integrated light source (COB):


The integrated light source (COB) is used as the downlight source because the integrated light source has its own circuit board and only needs to be fixed during use. Therefore, compared with the chip lamp beads (SMD), it saves the cost of the aluminum substrate and the cost of the patch. Cost. Because the power of the integrated light source (COB) is relatively large, the heat source is relatively concentrated when the LED is working, so the heat dissipation design requirements are higher; the second is that the light-emitting surface of the integrated light source is relatively small, in order to avoid generating on the light-emitting surface of the downlight The light spot usually requires a relatively large distance from the integrated light source to the light-emitting surface, which requires the height of the reflector to be relatively high, so the height of the downlight using the integrated light source will be relatively high, and the volume of the entire luminaire will naturally be relatively large. In order to reduce the height of the entire downlight, a reflector with a high reflection coefficient can be used to reduce the height of the reflector.


LED downlight classification:


1. Installation method: embedded downlight and surface mounted downlight


2. Places: household downlights and engineering downlights. Civilian clothing is mainly 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch small sizes, which are mainly used in homes; 4-inch, 6-inch, and 8-inch are public clothing, and are usually used in hotels, office buildings and public places.
