Absen, a Chinese LED company, won a three-year lawsuit against the US "patent hooligan"!
Recently, some media reported that the Chinese LED company Abson Texas had won the lawsuit. None of the nine accused products infringed any Ultravision's intellectual property rights. At the same time, the patent declared by Ultravision was invalidated.
We must know that this lawsuit lasted for more than 3 years. Over the past 3 years, Abison spent tens of millions and withstood tremendous pressure before finally bringing down this "patent hooligan"--Ultravision, and Abby Sen said that the next step is to take advantage of the victory and sue the other party to pay tens of millions of lawyers' fees.
What happened? The reason is that around 2015, Chinese LED companies have developed rapidly, and because of their good technology, low cost, and excellent products, they have mixed very well not only in the domestic market, but also in the overseas market, and they have seized the market in many countries and regions around the world. Most of the shares, of which Absen is the leader of LED companies, has performed very well in the US market.
Ultravision is an American LED company. Under the impact of Chinese products, its performance has been declining, and it is obviously unable to sustain it. So it has a plan to use some legal loopholes to blackmail Chinese LED companies.
Ultravision has claimed a lot of messy patents in the United States. There are more than 30 patents in total, indicating that Chinese LED companies have infringed its patents. In 2018, it advocated to issue 337 investigations against Chinese LED companies and demanded that Chinese LEDs be banned. Related products of the company are sold in the United States.
Due to the 337 investigations, the lawsuits took a very long time, the process was troublesome, and the cost was huge. Without tens of millions of fees, the lawsuit could not be fought at all. At the beginning of the 337 investigations, the impact on product sales was very large, and it might even lead to withdrawal from the US market.
So many LED companies have compromised, choosing to reconcile with each other and pay some money, which is equivalent to "breaking money and eliminating disasters". This matter is over. After all, this is the most cost-effective calculation.
And Absen is the leading company of Chinese LED companies in the United States and a leader. Its sales in the United States reached 500 million in 2018. Ultravision asked Aibi Lin to pay 30 million US dollars for the settlement.
Abilene certainly disagrees. I feel that I am useless of your patent. You are blackmailing. I will not choose to compromise. You can ask for money, but I will give you a maximum of US$100,000, otherwise I will see you in court.
So the two sides got up in this way. While some of the peers chose to pay, Absen decided to bring down each other, not only for himself, but for the entire Chinese LED industry.
In the process of litigation, many LED companies in China also united. For example, giants such as Abison, Leyard, Lianjian, Unilumin and other giants formed an alliance, and jointly responded to the lawsuit. Everyone chose to stand on Abison's side. , Give money and effort, support Abison's team of lawyers, give enough resources to overcome difficulties.
Due to sufficient preparations and sufficient evidence, after a full five-day trial, the Absen team finally won. Ultravision's allegations were invalid, and the more than 30 patents claimed by Ultravision were all invalid patents.
This also means that not only Absen, but even Chinese LED companies, no longer have to worry about this patent hooligan. LED products made in China can continue to be sold in the United States. This is not just Absen’s victory. , It is a victory in China's LED field.
