Application of LED lighting in plant factories

Application of LED lighting in plant factories

In recent years, plant factories using LED light sources and environmental control characteristics have become a niche market that major factories are eager to enter in recent years. Combining LED lighting will shorten the harvest period of crops, plants or flowers, and appropriately Environmental control can not only prevent insect pests, but also avoid or reduce the use of pesticides, to ensure food safety, and to increase the added value of agricultural products.

The conceptual niche of the plant factory will have the opportunity to bring new solutions to many agricultural problems such as narrow land and dense population and pollution. Recently, with the gradual maturity of LED lighting applications in public and commercial spaces, plant factories have become a new market that European, American, Japanese and Taiwanese companies are actively rushing into. In particular, local governments in China have adopted plant factories as a strategy for their political achievements. Attract factories to eagerly try, and strive for local government subsidies.

With the improvement of LED lighting application maturity, LED lighting has become an indispensable part of plant factories. Compared with traditional halogen lamps and fluorescent tubes, LED light sources are not only environmentally friendly, but also have the advantages of energy saving. For users, the controllability of LED light sources brings more advantages to agricultural planting. According to the observation of industry experts, the light quality and quantity of the LED light source can be controlled, and LED light sources of different wavelengths can be matched for different varieties and planting types. The light quantity can also be supplemented with the length of the sun.

In addition, the effect of strengthening specific wavelengths cannot be underestimated. Compared with traditional light sources, LEDs are more able to take advantage of different plants requiring different specific wavelengths to supplement energy.

However, compared with sunlight, LED energy is naturally slightly inferior, but because there is no sunlight at night, the supplement and enhancement of LED light sources is one of the reasons that can shorten the production period of plants. There are also two mainstream forms of LED light sources in plant factories. One is to use a white light source mixed with fluorescent powder, and the other is to use different color LEDs such as red LED, blue LED and ultraviolet LED to mix the light or to reinforce the LED lighting of the wavelength required by the plants.

Regarding this point, there are still different opinions in the industry. The light absorbed by flower crops during photosynthesis is mainly visible light and ultraviolet light. 650-655nm, and the blue wavelength of 450-470nm, can achieve the best effect. This kind of plant lighting application is suitable for LED light source in the form of mixed light, instead of using phosphor to mix white LED that simulates sunlight. light source.

Therefore, the plant factory products launched by some industry players are mainly matched with red and blue LEDs.
