Lots of parking lots are lit with HID bulbs like high-pressure sodium lamps, metal halide, and mercury vapor lamps. They are bright, relatively efficient, last a decently long time, and provide for great illumination over large areas.
Admittedly, until several years ago they were the best option for large area lighting at the disposal of those who were responsible for providing for it. However, advances in technology have made alternatives such as LEDs much more practical.
LEDs were once very expensive, but about 20 years ago the cost of producing the semiconductors that are used in the creation of these diodes dropped significantly, and they became easier and cost-effective to produce. Additionally, newer LEDs are just as bright if not brighter than equivalent HID lamps, they offer similar color temperatures, and come with a number of additional benefits. Here are some of them.
1. High Quality Light
First off, it is important to keep in mind that today's LED parking lot lights are a true solution for many parking lot light fixtures and they offer high-quality light. Whether you need an LED solution for lighting up an outdoor area with very cool or very warm color temperature, you can find LEDs that offer it, in a number of different lumen ratings. In short, there is little if anything that HID lamps can offer that modern LEDs can't.
2.Long life span
LED lights also have a remarkably long lifespan, which is important for a few reasons. In the first place, you won't have to worry about the lights dying prematurely, which will keep things well light and safe. In addition, it is very expensive not only to buy new units for replacement but also to pay someone to install them all. That's not even to mention that it is time-consuming as well.
3.High energy efficiency
LEDs won't just save you money by lasting longer and needing to be replaced less frequently; they will also slash your power bills. Not that HID lamps are inefficient, necessarily, but LED lights are far more efficient and draw only an actual fraction of the power. That will save you money coming and going.
4. Improved safety
Finally, since safety is a prime concern in a commercial parking lot, keep in mind that LEDs can make the setting safer. With their high light output and long lifespan, you won't need to worry about one needing to be replaced on the fly; when you have more reliable lighting solutions like LEDs lighting up your public spaces from dusk to dawn, the safety of the setting will invariably improve.
