Specifications and differences of T8, T5, T4 lamps and LED lamps
T8, T5, T4 lamps
Specification diameter:
Commonly used are T8, T5, T4 lamps, as well as T10, T12. Well, this "T" stands for "Tube", indicating that this thing is tubular, and the number after the T indicates the diameter of the tube. Each "T" is 1/8 of an inch, and one inch is equal to 25.4 mm. Then each "T" is 25.4÷8=3.175mm, then the diameter of the T8 lamp is 25.4mm.
The diameter of the T12 lamp is (12/8)×25.4=38.1 mm
The diameter of the T10 lamp is (10/8)×25.4=31.8mm
The diameter of the T8 lamp is (8/8)×25.4=25.4mm (the T8 is exactly one inch in diameter)
The diameter of the T5 lamp is (5/8)×25.4=16mm
The diameter of the T4 lamp is (4/8)×25.4=12.7mm
The diameter of other lamps is analogous: T3.5 diameter is 11.1mm, T2 diameter is 6.4mm

What is the difference between T5 and T4, T8?
In theory, the thinner the tube, the higher the efficiency, which means that the same wattage emits more light. In order to save costs, T5 and T4 are sold in the form of micro brackets, that is, the ballast is contained in the micro space of the bracket. The efficiency and quality of this kind of ballast are generally not very good, resulting in a lamp that should be very efficient. On the contrary, it is not as bright as the conventional T8 lamp, and the lifespan is also somewhat discounted.
Nevertheless, in actual use, thin light tubes are easy to conceal and flexible in use occasions, which is why T5 and T4 light tubes are most used by designers.
Common household lamps and their characteristics:
Commonly used in households:
20W length 64cm 640mm
30W length 96cm 960mm
40W length 128cm 1280mm
color temperature
Color temperature is expressed in absolute temperature K. Different color temperatures can cause people to react differently emotionally,
Three types of color temperature:
a. Warm light: The color temperature of warm light is below 3300K. The color of warm light is similar to that of incandescent light, and the red light component is more, giving people a warm, healthy and comfortable feeling. It is suitable for families, residences, dormitories, hospitals, hotels. and other places, or where the temperature is relatively low.
b. Warm white light: also called intermediate color, its color temperature is between 3300K-5300K. .The soft light of warm white light makes people feel pleasant, comfortable and peaceful. It is suitable for shops, hospitals, offices, restaurants, restaurants, waiting rooms and other places.
c. Cool color light: also known as daylight color, its color temperature is above 5300K, the light source is close to natural light, it has a bright feeling, making people concentrate, suitable for reading in offices, conference rooms, classrooms, drawing rooms, design rooms, and libraries rooms, exhibition windows, etc.
The higher the color temperature, the closer to blue the luminous flux is. In fact, the total energy of the spectrum is not low. The lower the color temperature, the closer to red. It can be simply understood that the higher the color temperature (bluish), the shorter the wavelength (below 555nm), and the lower the sensitivity of the human eye to light. The luminous flux is related to the perception of the human eye. The less light the human eye receives, the lower the luminous flux.
Such as: T5 is an energy-saving lamp, most of which are close to daylight color, and T8 is an old-fashioned fluorescent lamp, and most of the common are warm-colored light.
symbol of lamp
In addition to the above basic understanding of lamp parameters, the symbols printed on fluorescent lamps in my country, in addition to the brand logo and serial number of each manufacturer or distributor, often appear symbols that indicate the type of fluorescent lamp, glass tube diameter and color temperature, etc. Its meaning is as follows:
1) Symbols indicating types of fluorescent lamps
YZ: Indicates ordinary straight-tube fluorescent lamps (Y—is the first letter of the Hanyu Pinyin of “fluorescent lamp”, Z—is the first letter of the Hanyu Pinyin of “straight”)
YK: Indicates a quick-start fluorescent lamp (K—for "quick start")
YS: Indicates an instant-start fluorescent lamp (S—for "instant start")
YG: Indicates high frequency fluorescent lamp
YDN: Indicates single-ended inner start fluorescent lamp
YDW: Indicates single-ended external start fluorescent lamp
YH: Indicates Ring Fluorescent Lamp
YPZ: Indicates self-ballasted fluorescent lamps for general lighting
D: Electronic (inductive self-ballasted lamp symbol omitted)
Note: The foreign (IEC) representation method is: PS: preheating start RS: quick start, S: hot cathode single-pin instant start. Such symbols are commonly used in foreign products.
2) Symbol indicating the diameter of the glass tube of the lamp
The tube diameter of the lamp is represented by TX. Among them, T: refers to the tube type glass tube; X: refers to the diameter of the glass tube, which is X/8 inches.
Example: T12 means that the diameter of the glass tube is 12/8 inches. At present, the diameter of the glass tube can be directly expressed in the metric dimension in the domestic model name.
3) Symbol representing the color temperature of the lamp
RR: Indicates daylight color (color temperature 6500K) RZ: Indicates neutral white (color temperature 5000K)
RL: Indicates cool white (color temperature 4000K) RB: Indicates white (color temperature 3500K)
RN: indicates warm white (color temperature 3000K) RD: indicates incandescent lamp color (color temperature 2700K)
4) Other symbols
CE: Indicates that radio disturbance meets the requirements.
In addition, there will be technical parameters such as rated voltage and power on the lamp tube.
Such as: T8YZ36RR: Indicates that the diameter of the tube is 1 inch, the power is 36W, and the daylight color is an ordinary straight tube fluorescent lamp. (If the diameter of the glass tube is directly expressed in metric size, the above example can also be marked as YZ36RR26, which means the diameter of the tube is 26mm.)
LED tube
The LED fluorescent tube adopts CREE and AOD ultra-bright LED white light as the light source, and the shell is acrylic/aluminum alloy (customer defined).
Specification:
8w: 30*600mm 174 beads 60 ml
12w: 30*1168mm 276 beads 1000 ml
15w: 30*1198mm 342 beads 1200 ml
length:
LED fluorescent lamps and traditional fluorescent lamps are the same in size and diameter, and there are three types of lengths: 60cm, 120cm, and 150cm.
power:
Its power is 10W, 16W and 20W respectively, while the actual power consumption of 18W traditional fluorescent lamp (inductive ballast) is about 26W, and the actual power consumption of 36W traditional fluorescent lamp (inductive ballast) is about 45W; 8W LED fluorescent lamp is equivalent to 20W ordinary fluorescent lamp illumination, 15W LED fluorescent lamp is equivalent to 40W ordinary fluorescent lamp illumination, the same lighting efficiency saves 80% of electricity than traditional fluorescent lamps;
installation method:
The installation of LED fluorescent lamps is very simple. When installing, remove the original fluorescent lamps and replace them with LED fluorescent lamps, remove the ballast and starter, and directly add 220V AC mains to both ends of the LED fluorescent lamps.
