What Are Mogul Base Light Bulbs?

The bigger foundation is the issue. light lamps with a mogul (screw) base

Compared to the common, middle (E26) screw base lights, bulbs have larger screw bases (E39). Instead of referring to the forms of the light bulbs, the "39" and "26" of E39 and E26, respectively, refer to the millimeter diameter of the corresponding screw bases (i.e., E39 base bulbs measure 39 millimeters or 1.5 inches, and E26 base bulbs measure 26 millimeters or 1.0 inch).

Mogul base bulbs are available in the market in a variety of technological configurations, including mogul base LED bulbs, mogul base compact fluorescent bulbs, mogul base halogen, mercury vapor, metal halide, and high pressure sodium bulbs. Mogul base bulbs are made of cast porcelain to withstand higher temperatures, making them ideal for industrial and commercial uses (e.g., power ratings of 250–1000 watts).

"U" represents the mogul foundation.

Because light bulbs generally come in various base sizes, choosing the right number can be challenging. The only thing you need to keep in mind when perusing product specifications is that the "U" stands for mogul base in names like M175/U/MED and MH1000/U/BT56, for instance. However, the good news is that you can purchase a reduction to use an E26 light bulb on an E39 base bulb lamp and an adapter to use a 3-way E26 light bulb in an E39 base bulb lamp if you accidentally purchased a medium base bulb (E26) for your mogul base lamp (E39).
