What is the Difference Between BL and BLB Blacklights?

The phosphor-equipped fluorescent blacklight category includes lamps having a peak wavelength of 365 nanometers. This region of the spectrum, known as UV-A, is just beyond the visible light spectrum. The peak wavelength of UV-A bulbs, on the other hand, is in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum, hence they are regarded as ultraviolet bulbs.

There are two separate designations for blacklights, which are often included at the end of the component number for a certain bulb. These are BL and BLB abbreviations. They both produce UV-A radiation at the same wavelength, but only one of them filters out the majority of visible light.

Blacklight Bulbs, or BL
BL blacklights have the same appearance as regular fluorescent light bulbs. They are employed in UV applications where visible light in addition to the UV is not an issue, such as UV curing, phototherapy, tanning beds, and bug traps.

Applications of BL Blacklight Frequently
Bug-Repelling Lighting
ultraviolet (UV) curing apparatus
Sunless beds
Phototherapy
Minimal Disinfection

Blacklight Bulbs BLB
Contrarily, BLB blacklights are simple to identify because to the dark blue filter that covers the bulb. When the bulb is switched on, the filter mostly shuts out visible light, leaving just a little violet glow. BLB blacklights are used for inspections like mineral analysis as well as for spectacular effects. They may also be used to find organic things, such as looking for bed bug evidence.

Is UV-A harmful?
The UV-A spectrum, which has a longer wavelength and relatively low power, is thought to be the safest. Long exposure durations should still be avoided, particularly if you're staring into the light.

Since UV-A light may harm bacteria for long periods of time, it is often not used for germicidal lighting. However, some lighting fixtures use UV-A to sterilize surfaces at low levels. The light may be utilized in inhabited places unprotected, which is advantageous. However, UV-A is seldom used for this purpose since UV-C lamps and even UV-B light bulbs are more effective at destroying germs.
