UGR, or Unified Glare Rating, is a measure of the subjective discomfort glare experienced by an individual in a given environment. The UGR system is commonly used by lighting designers, architects, engineers, and other professionals involved in the planning and evaluation of lighting systems. It is also included in various lighting standards and regulations, such as EN 12464-1, which provides guidance on lighting requirements in workplaces.


To determine the UGR value of a lighting installation, various software programs and calculators are available that take into account the relevant parameters, such as the number and type of luminaires, their photometric data, and the geometry and reflectance of the room.
