What problems still exist in the field of LED lighting, and what needs to be done?

So far, the lighting field that LED has entered is only the so-called special lighting field, such as automotive lighting, urban landscape lighting, museum cultural relics and artwork lighting, and backlight lighting, which means that the illumination requirements on the illuminated objects are not too high. Directional and "seeing" light sources are also relatively high cost-affordable areas, that is, applications that can highlight the performance of LEDs compared to other lighting sources.

For LED to truly enter into home lighting and commercial lighting, two major obstacles must be overcome, and some related technical standards and technical work in a series of applications must be established.

One of the two major hurdles is the need to further improve the lumen efficiency of LEDs. Judging from the power white LEDs that have become commercial products (not referring to the laboratory level), the high D level is only 50lm/W. A large number of white LEDs have a level of 20~30lm/W, which only reaches the level of incandescent lamps, which is still a long way from the 80lm/W of fluorescent lamps. This problem needs to be fundamentally solved by improving the internal quantum and external quantum efficiency of LEDs. .

The second of the two major obstacles is the cost of LED light sources or the so-called price per lumens. At present, the power white LED at home and abroad is about RMB 1 yuan/lm. Obviously this is unacceptable for ordinary home lighting or commercial lighting. Therefore, reducing costs is another key issue for LEDs to enter the lighting field, which can only be solved through the large-scale production of power LEDs.

In addition, in order to replace the traditional lighting source with LED light source, a series of problems must be solved in terms of technology. For example, LEDs, incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps and other traditional light sources have different luminous characteristics and light distribution curves, so the types of lamps that constitute them can be the same as traditional lamps, and the light distribution methods of different numbers of chopping configurations are also different. The corresponding light distribution structure and shape of lamps and lanterns. This requires a lot of experimentation and design work, especially the optical design.

Third, LEDs are used for lighting, because the working voltage of various traditional lamps and lanterns directly uses the mains (220V in my country), or uses standard full voltage (low voltage) such as AC12V, AC24V, AC36V, etc. Therefore, just like each fluorescent lamp is equipped with a ballast, LED lamps must be equipped with AC-DC conversion and constant current drive power supply, which requires a series of LED light source drivers to adapt to different power and current, and design various specifications. The connectors are easy to use and interchange.

Fourth, it is necessary to formulate technical standards and light source product standards for LED lighting sources. Make domestic production gradually embark on the road of standardization and standardization, and also facilitate the unified evaluation of product grades.

Fifth, it is necessary to speed up the cooperation between LED light sources and silicon photovoltaic cells, and to launch low-cost, renewable and truly green lighting products as soon as possible.
