Gaelic football, soccer, and rugby often call for illumination levels of 500 Lux (Class 1), 200 Lux (Class 11), or 75 Lux (Class 111). Hurling requires more since the ball is smaller and moves more quickly.

Lighting Class 1 denotes competitiveness at the national or international level. Competition between County or Major Local Clubs is referred to as Lighting Class 11. Local or small club competitions or training, as well as school sports and recreation, are referred to as lighting class 111.
