The good uniformity of horizontal and vertical illuminance and low illuminance gradient can avoid problems caused by visual adaptation of athletes, referees, spectators and cameras. The current standard for uniformity is measured by two indicators at the same time:
U1 = minimum illuminance/maximum illuminance;
U2 = minimum illuminance/average illuminance;
The illuminance gradient shows the rate of change of illuminance. For example, the illuminance gradient of a point on a five-meter grid is the percentage of the largest illuminance change between that point and the eight adjacent five-meter grid points.
