Regardless of whether you often do things yourself when it comes to outfitting your caravan, installing LED lighting isn't that difficult. We'll walk you through every step of installing 12 volt dual color LED lights in this helpful tutorial.
installing 12-volt LED canopy lighting
Most people with a basic understanding of DIY can install 12v canopy dual color LED lights, in contrast to many light-related fittings that should only be done by skilled professionals.
Why? If LED lights are connected precisely and thoroughly, there is very little possibility of fire threats since the current demand is so low.
How to install LED lights in your motorhome step by step
Step 1: Verify the unit you have now.
Check what is presently installed in your ceiling unit as a first step. The illumination is often located below the wallboard trim. Before you start, make sure the lighting circuit on the control panel is turned off.
Remove the old unit in step two.
You may take off the old lighting unit from your caravan after securely turning off the lighting circuits. This should show a big hole in the ceiling, which may be used to reconnect the LED lights.
You have two choices if the new LED lighting unit is too tiny to completely fill the hole:
Put a cover over any exposed trim base.
Adjust the LED device (especially if the trim is too far from the hole as well)
Step 3: Reposition the LED strip light's wiring so that it is below.
There are a few things to take to do this:
Remove the two top screws from the unity's end cap.
Gently insert the wire through the opening.
Post the wire from the rear and tighten the cap again.
Check the polarity of the wiring in the ceiling using a multimeter, particularly if your caravan is an older model. Remember to check that the gadget is set to DC range and at a voltage little over 12 volts.
Keep all metal and the cables separate. If you must, tape is an option.
Restart the lighting circuit and check each individual wire with the multimeter to make sure it displays a positive value.
After finishing this, be careful to turn the circuit off once again.
Trim the wire in step four.
Remove the plastic from each of the four wires and cut the new wire to the desired length.
Solder the wires in Step 5.
Solder the wires. Any secure technique that works for you may be used for this. To free up both hands, some DIYers choose to tape the device to the ceiling.
The ends of the wires should be frayed and spliced together after a length of shrink tube is slipped up onto the wire. Use a soldering iron to make a connection once they have been twisted, and then solder. Keep in mind that the white wires and the red and black (new) wires belong together.
Tip: Put a layer of protective foil beneath the wire if you're worried about using the heat gun and scorching the ceiling.
Step 6: Screw the appliance.
The 12 volt canopy dual color LED lighting unit may now be screwed to the trailer wall board. Make sure you have the appropriate sized screws since, as you may recall, the boards are often tiny and delicate.
Make sure the device is resting over the existing hole when you screw it in. Additionally, take care not to overtighten the screw. Maintain security, but avoid overtightening.
Step 7: Start it up
Restart the lighting circuit using your control unit to test it out.
