LED failure analysis and maintenance


1. Static burn


Since LEDs are electrostatic sensitive components, if electrostatic protection is not done well in the production process, the LED chips will be burned out due to static electricity, resulting in the phenomenon of suspended LED strips.


Solution: Strengthen electrostatic protection, especially the use of anti-static soldering iron. Employees who come into contact with LEDs must wear anti-static gloves and anti-static rings, and tools and instruments must be properly grounded.


2, short circuit,


Many LED lights do not light up because the LED pins are short-circuited. Even if the LED lights are used, they will be short-circuited when the power is turned on, and the LED chips will be burned.


Solution: Find out the real cause of the damage in time before maintenance, do not rashly replace the LED, if it is found to be the cause of the short circuit, repair or directly replace the entire LED strip.


3. High temperature damage


The high temperature resistance of LEDs is not good. Therefore, if the welding temperature and welding time of the LEDs are not well controlled during the production and maintenance process, the LED chips will be damaged due to ultra-high temperature or continuous high temperature, resulting in suspended LED strips.


Solution: Do a good job of reflow soldering and temperature control of the soldering iron, and implement a special person responsible for file management; the soldering iron adopts a temperature-controlled soldering iron to effectively prevent the soldering iron from burning the LED chips at high temperatures. It should be noted that the soldering iron cannot stay on the LED pin for 10 seconds, otherwise it is easy to burn the LED chip.


4. High temperature moisture burst


If the LED flexible strip package is exposed to the air for a long time, it will absorb moisture. If dehumidification is not carried out before use, in reflow soldering, due to high temperature and long time, the moisture in the LED package will be thermally expanded, causing the LED package to burst and indirectly lead to overheating and damage to the LED chip.


Solution: The LED storage environment should be kept at a constant temperature and humidity. Unused LEDs must be baked in an oven at about 80° for 6 to 8 hours for dehumidification before the next use to ensure that the LEDs will not absorb moisture.
