Looking at the development of LED from the LED penetration rate in Japan
Ni Masanori, executive director of the Japan Lighting Industry Association, revealed that there are currently more than 900 million lighting appliances in use in Japan, of which about 20 million are LED lighting. According to the ratio, the penetration rate of LEDs in Japan is only about 2%.
Although the life of LED lighting is much longer than that of fluorescent lamps, the price is 2-3 times that of fluorescent lamps, and there is no advantage in cost performance. The reason why the government still advocates LED lighting is that there is much room for improvement in the future. Japan began to produce and sell LED lighting equipment more than 10 years ago. Why is the penetration rate still low now? The main reason is that the quality of LED lighting has not yet reached the ideal state. The energy-saving performance of high-end LED lighting this year is just on par with that of fluorescent lamps, but most of the LED's energy-saving performance is still inferior to that of fluorescent lamps.
The budget for this project in fiscal year 2012 is 1.67 billion yen. The Japanese government also provides subsidies for consumers to encourage residents to use LED lighting products. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan began to develop next-generation lighting technology as one of the projects to enhance industrial competitiveness in 2009, and issued subsidies to relevant scientific research institutions to support the development of new LED lighting technologies.
