What factors affect the internal resistance of lithium-ion batteries

What factors affect the internal resistance of lithium-ion batteries

additional factors

Temperature and ambient temperature are important factors affecting various resistances. Specifically, for lithium-ion batteries, it is because temperature affects the activity of electrochemical materials, which directly determines the speed of electrochemical reactions and the speed of ion movement.

The current or load demand, on the one hand, the magnitude of the current is directly related to the polarization internal resistance. The general trend is that the greater the current, the greater the polarization internal resistance. On the other hand, the thermal effect of the current has an influence on the activity of the electrochemical material.

The factor of the battery itself

The positive electrode material, negative electrode material, and the ease of intercalation and deintercalation of lithium ions determine the internal resistance of the material, which is a part of the concentration polarization resistance.

Electrolyte, the movement rate of lithium ions in the electrolyte is affected by the conductivity of the electrolyte and is an important part of the electrochemical polarization resistance.

The diaphragm, the resistance of the diaphragm itself, directly constitutes a part of the ohmic internal resistance, and at the same time, its resistance to the movement rate of lithium ions forms a part of the electrochemical polarization resistance.

The current collector resistance, the component connection resistance, is an important part of the ohmic internal resistance of the battery.

The process level, the production process of the pole piece, the uniformity of the coating, the compaction density, and the level of the process level during the processing of these cells will also have a direct impact on the polarization internal resistance.
