The German physicist Johann Wilhelm Ritter Von Hoehn made the discovery in the 1800s when Ritter saw a response between the UV light, or invisible rays at the end of the spectrum, and the silver chloride paper he was using for his experiments. Since this light's wavelength is between 320 and 400 nm, it belongs to the UV spectrum. Energy is higher in shorter wavelengths than in longer ones.
