As people's lighting needs continue to increase, traditional incandescent lamps, due to their high energy consumption and fragility, can no longer meet these needs. Consequently, white LED lamps have emerged, replacing them. Today, the vast majority of lighting fixtures are LEDs because they are energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, and have a long lifespan. Although individual lamps may be slightly more expensive, they are increasingly being chosen by more and more families.

 

As more and more families adopt LED lights, the question arises: are LED lights harmful to the human body?

Because LED lights differ from traditional lamps in their light-emitting principles, they primarily emit blue light, which has irreversible effects on the eyes. Long-term exposure to blue light can cause retinal damage and lead to vision loss. Furthermore, blue light can disrupt sleep, especially for the elderly. Melatonin production decreases with age, and combined with the use of blue light, these individuals experience increasing sleep difficulties.

 

But do LED lights have such significant effects? Actually, this is not the case. LED lights are made of conductive materials and lack filaments. While they emit some radiation, it's very weak. Moreover, since they lack a filament, they emit a cool light and don't radiate heat, so the impact is minimal.

 

In short, there's no need to exaggerate the harmful effects of blue light on the eyes. Qualified products have already filtered out harmful shortwave blue light, and their blue light hazard level is generally within a non-hazardous range. So how do you choose a quality-assured LED light?

First, check whether the packaging of the selected LED light has the CCC certification mark (the CCC certification mark is the primary indicator of LED light source safety), whether it indicates that the light emitted is non-hazardous, and whether the color temperature of the selected LED is around 4500K (light emitted around 4500K is less harmful to the eyes).

 

Second, choose a safer LED light; warmer yellow LEDs emit less blue light. Therefore, when choosing LED lights, opt for ones with a lower color temperature.

 

Third, when using your phone or working on a computer under LED lights for extended periods, wear blue light-blocking glasses to protect your eyes from blue light damage.

 

Fourth, ensure you're getting adequate eye nutrition. Eat more foods rich in lutein, which filters blue light and reduces oxidative damage to the retina caused by ultraviolet and blue light.
