Museum Lighting Design Specification

Museum Lighting Design Specification

1. High color rendering light

In the lighting design of museums, for places with high requirements for color discrimination, such as paintings, colored fabrics, and multi-color exhibits, a light source with a general color rendering index (Ra) of not less than 90 should be used as the lighting source; In places, a light source with a general color rendering index of not less than 80 can be used as the lighting source. The color rendering of the light source directly affects the performance of the hue and saturation of the colors of the exhibits. The use of professional museum lighting LED chips can provide lights with a color rendering index of up to 95.

2. Choose the right color temperature

In the lighting design of the museum, the shaping of the scene atmosphere and the presentation of the colors and materials of the exhibits are particularly important. For general museum lighting, it is recommended to use a light source with a color temperature of less than 3300K, while maintaining the color temperature integrity of the museum exhibition hall environment. With the development of LED technology, compared with traditional light sources such as metal halide lamps and halogen lamps, LEDs have the advantage of better control of chromatic aberration, making the lighting more pure.

3. Three-dimensional shaping

The combination of general lighting and local accent lighting is usually used in museum lighting design. For example, for three-dimensional exhibits, the details are outlined by the combination of directional lighting and diffused lighting; for some large-scale three-dimensional exhibits, directional lighting and reflective lighting are used to cast from both sides, resulting in different degrees of shadows and highlighting the three-dimensional effect. Exhibition lighting should reflect the artistic effect of cultural relics with a three-dimensional sense through different brightness contrast, light and dark matching, light and shadow combination, and use light to give life to cultural relics and present them realistically.

4. Glare control

Glare is one of the important considerations in the lighting design of museums. Attention should be paid to avoiding the existence of glare in the lighting, and also pay attention to the bright contrast and uniformity of the exhibits, so as to find the best visual comfort in the balance of light, shadow and brightness. point.

Showroom lighting design

1. General requirements

(1) The brightness ratio of the exhibits to its background should not be greater than 3:1.

(2) At the entrance of the exhibition hall, a transition area should be set up, and the illumination level in the area should meet the requirements of visual dark adaptation.

(3) For low-light exhibition rooms displaying objects that are particularly sensitive to light, a transition area for visual adaptation should be set up.

(4) In museums that use artificial lighting entirely, emergency lighting must be provided.

2. Light sources and lamps

(1) LED lights should be used as the lighting source.

(2) Lamps or specially designed lamps should be selected according to the lighting requirements of the display objects and the environment.

3. Display lighting

(1) Wall display lighting

a. Directional lighting should be used.

b. The light source should be arranged in the "reflection image area without light source".

(2) Three-dimensional exhibit display lighting

a. A combination of directional lighting and diffuse lighting should be used, with directional lighting as the mainstay.

b. The color temperature of the light source for directional lighting and diffuse lighting should be consistent and close.

(3) Showcase display lighting

a. The heat generated by the light source in the showcase should not remain in the showcase.

b. The audience should not directly see the light source in or outside the showcase.

c. The reflection glare of the light source should not be generated on the glass surface of the showcase, and the reflection of the audience or other objects should be reduced to a minimum.
