What is IP protection level

What is IP protection level

We often see that the protection levels are IP65 and IP66 on the technical parameters of many products such as cameras and card readers, but in most cases many people do not know what is IP65, what is IP66, and what is IP protection level. Here Let’s discuss with you, and by the way, understand what IP protection level is:

IP (International Protection) protection level system is drafted by IEC (INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION). The lamps are classified according to their dust-proof and moisture-proof characteristics. The foreign objects referred to here include tools, human fingers, etc., should not touch the live parts of the lamp to avoid electric shock. The IP protection level is composed of two numbers. The first number indicates the degree of protection against dust and foreign objects, and the second number indicates the degree of airtightness of the lamp against moisture and water intrusion. The larger the number, the higher the degree of protection. High, the protection level indicated by the two marked numbers is shown in Table 1 and Table 2.

Table 1: The degree of protection indicated by the first marked special number (number).

The first marking number. Protection level, definition

0. No protection, no special protection for people or things outside

1. Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 50mm, and prevent the human body (such as the palm) from accidentally contacting the internal parts of the lamp. Prevent the intrusion of foreign objects of larger size (diameter greater than 50mm).

2. Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 12mm, and prevent people's fingers from touching the internal parts of the lamp to prevent foreign objects of medium size (12mm in diameter) from intruding.

3. Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 2.5mm, and prevent tools, wires or similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness larger than 2.5mm from intruding and contacting the internal parts of the lamp.

4. Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 1.0mm, and prevent tools, wires or similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness larger than 1.0mm from intruding and contacting the internal parts of the lamp.

5. Dust-proof, completely prevent the intrusion of foreign objects. Although the ingress of dust cannot be completely prevented, the amount of intrusive dust will not affect the normal operation of the lamp.

6. Dust-proof, completely prevent the intrusion of foreign objects, and completely prevent the entry of dust.

Table 2: The degree of protection referred to by the second marked special number (number)

The second marking number. Degree of protection, definition

0. No protection, no protection

1. Prevent the intrusion of dripping water. Vertical dripping water (such as condensed water) will not cause harmful effects on the lamp.

2. It can still prevent dripping water when it is tilted 15 degrees. When the lamp is tilted from vertical to 15 degrees, the dripping water will not cause harmful effects on the lamp.

3. Prevent the intrusion of sprayed water, rainproof, or prevent the water sprayed in the direction with an angle of less than 60 degrees from the vertical from entering the lamp and causing damage.

4. Prevent the intrusion of splashing water, and prevent the splashing water from all directions from entering the lamp and causing damage.

5. Prevent the intrusion of sprayed water, and prevent the water from the nozzle from all directions from entering the lamp and causing damage.

6. To prevent the intrusion of large waves, the lamps installed on the deck can prevent damage caused by the invasion of large waves.

7. To prevent water intrusion when immersed, the lamp can be immersed in water for a certain period of time or the water pressure is below a certain standard to ensure that no damage is caused by water ingress.

8. Prevent water intrusion during sinking. The lamp will sink indefinitely under the specified water pressure to ensure that it will not be damaged due to water ingress.
