The first generation of LED spotlights


The earliest LED spotlights, let's call it the first generation for the time being, did not integrate the whole lamp at that time, but just replaced the previous traditional light sources with LED light sources, and sometimes drivers or rectifiers may also be replaced.


Second generation LED spotlight


At the beginning of the second generation, the LED was installed into the lamp to form an integrated lamp, but most of the light sources used a single Hight Power. At this time, the technology of the LED chip is a bit more advanced than the earlier one, and it can be integrated. come together.


There are generally two types of optical solutions for second-generation spotlights, one is an integrated lens, and the other is a combination of many single lenses.

In the third generation, in recent years, a large number of LED spotlights with COB light sources have appeared. The optical design of COB spotlights has also undergone several changes:


1 pure reflector type


The first type, the pure reflector type: a COB inside and a reflector outside. Its problem is that the light directly out of the COB has a strong secondary spot, and the spot is not very beautiful, and then there is an improved COB spotlight.


2 reflectors + light guide column type

Secondly, the color temperature range is very wide, from a very low 2200K/2400K to a very high 6000K/6500K, breaking the color temperature limitation of metal halide lamps of only 3000K to 4000K. The previous Hight Power color temperature can also be selected in multiple ways, but the technical requirements for packaging are relatively high, so high-power lamp beads are limited to a few manufacturers, while the packaging technology requirements of COB are slightly wider.


Therefore, the packaged COB can make a variety of light colors, and there are multiple color points under the same light color, which can meet the needs of more subdivided fields.


The improvement of packaging technology has also generally improved the color rendering of COB, and a good COB can reach a CRI of 98.


Three generations must be better than one?


Looking back, we mentioned the first, second, and third generation spotlights. It must be emphasized that it cannot be said that "this" must be better than "that". The products used, even the first generation products a long time ago, still exist in the market and even sell very well.


We say that the first generation, the second generation and the third generation are only divided according to the time of appearance. It does not mean that the third generation is necessarily better than the first generation.


For example, the lamp bead of Hight Power is only a light-emitting point, and a single lamp bead can be made into a very narrow beam angle, while COB has a light-emitting surface, although through a large lens, it can also achieve a very narrow beam angle, But in the early days, the effect of the spot is not as good as that of the single lens.


These types of LED track spotlights have their own advantages and disadvantages. There is no such thing as who derives who, and they have their own advantages and disadvantages in different eras and application places.
