The United States Department of Energy (DOE) put into effect two new regulations that govern and standardize light bulbs in April 2022. General service lamps, or GSLs, are the term used by the DOE to refer to light bulbs.
As a move toward a greener future, the new regulations have received plaudits. Environmental non-profit organizations applauded the new guidelines' anticipated reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and average household electric prices.
The impact of the rule changes on utility programs, however, will be more problematic. Fortunately, the new regulation can be gradually implemented until January 2023 by utility employees, managers, lighting wholesalers, and sales teams. However, manufacturers of lighting have less time to comply.
The coming months are very important. Understanding and adjusting to the new GSL norms throughout that period are crucial. Non-compliant retailers will be given warnings and penalties starting in January 2023. Compliance becomes routine with effective adaptability.
