Volkswagen decided to increase the lithium iron phosphate giant to land. Is ternary lithium not fragrant?

(Reporter Chen Mengyu) Yesterday, Guoxuan Hi-Tech's non-public offering of shares to Volkswagen my country has completed the registration and listing of new shares, and Volkswagen my country has officially become the largest shareholder of Guoxuan Hi-Tech, with its shareholding ratio increasing from 4.41% to 26.47%. Guoxuan Holding Group Co., Ltd. and Li Zhen's shareholding ratios dropped to 10.26% and 6.20%, respectively.

It is understood that Guoxuan Hi-Tech issued 384 million shares at a price of 19.01 yuan per share, raising a total of about 7.303 billion yuan for the new Guoxuan battery with an annual output of 16GWh high specific energy lithium-ion battery Industrialization projects, the new Guoxuan Materials project with an annual output of 30,000 tons of high-nickel ternary cathode materials and supplementary working capital.

In order to ensure the stable operation of Guoxuan Hi-Tech, Volkswagen my country undertakes that the relevant shares of the company involved in this non-public offering and share transfer are registered in the name of Volkswagen my country within 36 months or within a longer period determined by Volkswagen my country at its own discretion. It will irrevocably give up the voting rights of some of the company's shares held by it, so that the voting rights ratio of Volkswagen my country is at least 5% lower than that of the founding shareholders (Guoxuan Holdings, Li Zhen and its concerted actor Li Chen).

According to the statistics of my country Automotive Power Li-ion Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, in the first 11 months of this year, Guoxuan Hi-Tech's domestic power lithium-ion battery installed capacity was 6GWh, with a market share of 5.1%, ranking fourth in the industry. But it is worth noting that at present, Guoxuan Hi-Tech's important products are still lithium iron phosphate batteries. As a lithium iron phosphate giant, why was it chosen by Volkswagen, which uses ternary lithium ion batteries on a large scale?

At present, Volkswagen's domestic battery supplier is CATL, and the power lithium-ion battery is also a ternary lithium-ion battery. However, some time ago, the Volkswagen Group said that it will launch a small and low-cost pure electric SUV in the future. The new model is named ID. 2. It is expected to be announced by the end of 2025, and it is likely to use lithium iron phosphate batteries with relatively low energy density. In this regard, Frank Blome, head of battery technology at Volkswagen Group, said: "Lithium iron phosphate batteries are inexpensive and durable, with more charging cycles, making them ideal for short-range vehicles."

Coincidentally, in October this year, Tesla said at the third-quarter investor conference that the standard battery life version of Model 3 and Model Y will be switched to lithium iron phosphate batteries worldwide to prevent the price of raw materials such as nickel and cobalt. Rising costs. In addition, BYD also said that new cars on the market in the future will be fully equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries, and Xiaopeng Motors also launched a lithium iron phosphate version.

From ternary lithium-ion batteries to lithium iron phosphate batteries, the battery route of electric vehicles seems to have changed suddenly overnight. Early car companies chose to install ternary lithium-ion batteries with high energy density and high price. However, the current electric vehicle field In the stage of rapid expansion, price has become the key for car companies to increase market share. Except for higher-end models, almost all of the domestic best-selling A00-class models are equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries.

Industry data also confirms this trend. According to the latest data from the my country Automotive Power Li-ion Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, in November, my country's ternary battery loading was 9.2GWh, a year-on-year increase of 57.7%; the lithium iron phosphate battery loading was 11.6GWh, a year-on-year increase of 145.3%. The momentum of lithium iron phosphate continues to overshadow ternary lithium-ion batteries.

The difference in output between the two is even greater. In November, the output of ternary batteries in my country was 10.4GWh, accounting for 36.8% of the total output, an increase of 42.6% year-on-year; the output of lithium iron phosphate batteries was 17.8GWh, accounting for 63.0% of the total output, an increase of 229.2% year-on-year and a month-on-month increase of 12.0%.
