What Color Is Light In The 570–590nm Band?

What color is light in the 570–590nm band?

Light in the wavelength range of 570–590nm shows a bright, saturated pure yellow, often called amber yellow or sodium yellow light, which is a kind of yellow light that looks very soft and warm to the human eye.

Basic characteristics of 570–590nm light

Wavelength range: 570–590nm

Visual color: pure yellow / amber yellow

Color temperature performance: low color warm yellow, close to the tone of sodium lamp and sunset

Color development characteristics: not green, not orange, it is a standard medium and long wave yellow

In the visible light spectrum, 570–590nm falls exactly in the transition zone from yellow-green to pure orange-yellow, which is the most typical and comfortable yellow band.

Why is 570–590nm yellow light important in LEDs?

1. Forms a key part of white LEDs

The mainstream white LED adopts a blue light chip + yellow phosphor scheme, and after the phosphor is excited, the main luminous area is at 550–600nm, of which 570–590nm is the core yellow light part that forms natural white light. Without this band, the white light will be cold, bluish, and the color rendering will be poor.

2. High sensitivity of the human eye

The human eye is most sensitive to yellow-green light around 555nm, and yellow light at 570–590nm is also close to this peak range, so at the same power, yellow light looks brighter and visually more comfortable.

3. Extremely low attraction to insects

Most flying insects (mosquitoes, moths, etc.) are sensitive to ultraviolet, violet light, and blue light, but their sensitivity to yellow light at 570–590nm is very low. Therefore, this band is often used for anti-mosquito lighting, outdoor garden lights, and street lights, which can significantly reduce mosquito gathering.

570–590nm yellow light is the main application

  • Anti-mosquito lighting: garden lights, lawn lights, outdoor wall lights, street lights
  • Road lighting: low glare, high penetration, better penetration than white light in foggy days
  • Night scene and ambient lighting: warm and soft, not dazzling
  • Botanical lighting: auxiliary light to promote plant growth and flowering
  • Signs and signal lights: warning lights, indicator lights, car turn signals

570–590nm yellow light compared to other bands

Warmer and yellower than 550–570nm chartreuse

Brighter and softer than 590–620nm orange-yellow

It is more eye-friendly than shortwave blue light, does not interfere with the biological clock, and is suitable for use at night

Summary

570–590nm is the standard pure yellow visible light, which is not only an important part of white LEDs, but also an ideal band for eye protection, mosquito repellent, night lighting, and is widely used in outdoor lighting, home lighting, and plant lighting.
